An intercom provides the ability to talk to someone at the gates before deciding whether to let them enter or not.
Once the intercom is activated, it rings a handset in the house. The owner can then asnwer the call and speak to the visitor and if required remotely open the gates via the handset.
A wired intercom requires a fixed line from the gates to the main building. Multoiple handsets can be fitted. Voice intercoms can also be provided with video facilities so the owner can actually see aswell as hear who is at the gate. An alternative to a wired intercom is a GSM intercom which does not require a fixed line but instead uses the mobile phone network to communicate with the house.
