Cantilever and sliding gates are by design inherently secure. Both wooden and metal gates can be built as sliding gates. They also provide an option where it is not possible to swing a pair of gates inwards (due to a rising drive) or where space is at a premium.
A sliding gate requires a level surface in order to fit the sliding mechanism. Where the entrance is uneven or not level a cantilever system can be used. A cantilver gate esssentially floats over the surface whereas a sliding gate is fixed to a runner on the ground.
